Dana Smedley
Finance Assistant
As the Accounting Assistant, Dana is responsible for processing the donations the church receives and paying the bills. She graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 1991 and got her MBA from George Mason in 1999. She and her husband Matt were married at Sterling UMC in 1994 and have three sons, Patrick, Tyler, and Brian. She started teaching Sunday School for the 4-year-old class in 2006 and has been involved in Children’s and Youth ministries ever since.
Tell us a little about your background?
My husband, Matt, and I were married in the church back in 1994 when the floor in the sanctuary was red. We have three boys, Patrick (22), Tyler (20) and Brian (17). In 2014, I started working for SUMC as the Capital Campaign coordinator and in the fall of 2017, shifted to Finance Assistant.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Most of my free time is consumed by cheering on my 3 boys and their sports – college basketball, college football and high school football and basketball! When it’s off season, I enjoy reading, hiking, paddleboarding, walking my dog, Stella, and watching Master Chef and Star Wars Mandalorian.
What are you the most proud of?
I am most proud of my family and all of the joyful crazy that comes along with them!
