The long walk home

The long walk home
Jesus heals an official’s son. - John 4: 46-54

“Go; your son will live.”

And the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way.  There is no dramatic display. No visible healing in front of him. No reassurance that Jesus will follow along behind. Just a sentence.

And the father turns and walks home.

Geographically, this was no small thing. It was hours (maybe even days) of walking. Time to think. Time to doubt. Time to imagine the worst. Every step carried the weight of uncertainty...but every step also carried the word of Christ.

This is the quiet miracle inside the miracle: he believed.

He did not demand that Jesus accompany him. He did not ask for a written guarantee. He didn't say, “I won't leave until I see some proof.”

He trusted the word and walked.

Faith often looks like that. No fireworks. No certainty. Just obedience in motion.

There are seasons when we would love for Jesus to fix everything immediately and visibly. Instead, sometimes we receive a word… and a journey.

Is there something Christ has already spoken into your life? Through Scripture? Through prayer? Through wise counsel? Through the quiet prompting of the Spirit?

What might it look like to take the first step even if the outcome is not yet visible The miracle may already be unfolding as you walk.

Faithful Savior, help me trust your word enough to move. Give me courage for the long walk home. Amen.
