Life handed back

Jesus raises Lazarus to Life - John 11:1-44
Lazarus has his life is handed back to him. This is not simply a display of power. It is a gift placed back into his hands.
Lazarus does not ask for this moment. He does not prepare for it. He is simply called. And at the sound of Jesus’ voice, life returns where there had been only silence.
But here is the part we often overlook: Lazarus will die again. This miracle is not about escaping death forever. It is about revealing that death does not have the final word. It is about showing us that life—real, abundant, God-given life—is something deeper than the number of our days.
Pastor Bert’s reminded us that our lives use “borrowed equipment.” We live in bodies that will one day wear out. And yet, even now, Jesus offers something more than mere survival. He offers life that is renewed, reclaimed, and reoriented.
So often we move through our days as if we are still standing in the tomb - held back by fear, regret, old wounds, or patterns we cannot seem to break. We adjust to those limitations. We learn to live with them. We begin to believe they define us.
But Jesus stands at the entrance of those places and calls us by name.
“Come out.”
The invitation of this story is not only to marvel at what happened to Lazarus. It is to ask what it might mean for our lives to be handed back to us - right now.
If your life were given back to you today, what would you do differently?
What would you release?
What would you embrace?
Resurrection is not only a future promise. It is a present invitation.
Jesus, you call me into life even now. Where I have settled for less, awaken me. Where I feel bound, loosen what holds me. Give me courage to step into the life you are offering today. Amen.
