Young Women’s Event September 18-19: There is a wonderful event for Young Women (Ages 18-40) entitled ‘Being Enough.’ This is an event hosted by the Virginia Conference United Methodist Women, but is for all young women of the church ages 18 to 40. You do not have to be a member of UMW to attend. Please click on the web site for more information http://vaumw.org/news-and-events/young-women-event . Registration deadline is September 11, 2015. There will be some applications and info on UMW bulletin board.
Ubuntu Day of Service, September 19: UMW is planning an Ubuntu Day of Service on Saturday 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM at SUMC. Watch for more information as the time nears.
The United Methodist Women (the denomination-wide organization) will be celebrating 150 years in action in 2019. The celebration of this event is being planned to ensure that we continue for another 150 years. A legacy fund which is an endowment fund, has been established. FACT: 1)The UMW have fed, educated, sheltered and clothed people and we want to continue to do the same. 2) Right now 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence; the more TV a girl watches, the fewer choices she believes she has; and 3) there are more slaves on earth than ever before on this planet (human trafficking). The Legacy Fund is intended to free the upcoming UMW members (daughters, granddaughters) from administrative costs. A special ‘Legacy’ UMW annual pledge to mission for 3 years is being requested toward the Legacy Fund. Online giving is available or place a check in the UMW mail box made out to UMW with Legacy Fund on memo line. Help to break the cycle of poverty and abuse. Over $400,000 has been put into the Legacy Fund already. If every woman would donate $18.95 per year for 3 years, we would have sufficient legacy funds to ensure we could help others.
