29But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.30When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him. and he disappeared from their sight.

We continue with the Easter Season, the time according to the United Methodist Church that: …also known as Eastertide or the Great Fifty Days, begins on Easter Day and ends 50 days later on Pentecost. Focusing on Christ’s resurrection and ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost), Eastertide is the most joyous and celebrative season of the Christian year. We celebrate the good news that in Christ’s death and resurrection we, and all creation, are continually being made new by God’s love and saving grace.

Last Sunday our new sermon series Lessons of Easter continued with part two called “Meeting the Risen Christ.”   This week Pastor Steve will deliver the final sermon of the series with a sermon titled “At the Table with Jesus.”

Communion will be served at all services this first Sunday of the month.

Our 9 AM service is the traditional service and our 11 AM Contemporary Service features the music of our Praise Band.

Pastor Marcela Jarmon leads the Spanish language service in the sanctuary at 10 AM.   Also at 10 AM our adult Bible studies, fellowship coffee, and mission ministry will be occurring throughout the church.  A schedule of activities and locations is available in the bulletin and on the screen in the lobby.

The past weekend the Sunday school classes assisted in planting the seeds that will grow beans and Swiss chard for DeShong’s Gift Back; a non-profit organization whose mission is to supply fresh vegetables to food pantries, shelters, and churches like Sterling United Methodist Church.  The vegetables from this ministry support Sterling United Methodist Church’s GRACE Ministries effort as well as other local food distribution locations in the general Sterling community area. Volunteers are welcome to help throughout the season to maintain and harvest. Please contact the office if you would like more information.

Sterling UMC is a community church and all are welcome to be our guest, attend our services and support our mission efforts.  Please visit our website often for updates.  To subscribe to our weekly email newsletter please send your email contact information to
