Trip Participant Cost - $100 per person 

 

Planting spring crops on the DeShong's Giftback farm, and doing home repair in the surrounding community.

Trip Deposit:  $50 due March 15, 2012
Who: SUMC Adults (Age 18+)

Team Size:  Up to 7 participants
Skills:  None required, all welcome
Transportation:  Driving to Highlands
Accommodations:  Staying ath the Shorts' cabin

 

This trip will focus on getting early spring crops into the ground for the early summer harvest.  These crops will be given to local food banks and soup kitchens as part of DeShong's giftback's outreach ministry.  In addition, the team will do home repair in the community.

Summer Mission Trips 2012

 

Tachov and Litomerice, Czech Republic

  August 6-21, 2012

Application Deadline January 15, 2012;

Trip Participant Cost - Approximately $1500 per person* 

 

Ministry to children teaching an English camp, as well as construction on another children's camp.

 

Organization:  Tachov United Methodist Church

Trip Participant Fee:  Approximately $1500 per participant*

Trip Deposit:  $250 due January 15, 2012

Who: SUMC Youth and Adults (Youth under age 16 must be accompanied by parent)

Team Leader:  Phil Mohr

Team Size:  8 to 10 participants

Skills:  None required, all welcome

Transportation:  Flying to Czech Republic

Accommodations:  Host families and Church Camp

 

This trip involves teaching a summer children's English camp as well as construction work on another children's camp.  The team will spend its first week in Tachov (West Bohemia) and the second week in Litomerice (North of Prague) .  During the first week we will stay with host families from Tachov United Methodist Church, and we will work on constructing the Royal Rangers camp near Tachov.  Royal Rangers is a Christian version of scouting, for both boys and  girls in the Czech Republic.  We will work on the camp sponsored by Tachov UMC.  During the second week the team will join a Christian family camp, and we will run the children's portion of the camp,which whill be an "English Camp."

 

 *  The trip participant fee is an early estimate, and may fluctuate up or down somewhat once airline tickets are secured, and final ground costs are calculated.

 Canton, Ohio

  New Home Construction with Habitat for Humanity

 

Organization: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Stark and Carroll Counties

Trip Participant Fee:  $125 per participant

Trip Deposit:  $50 due March 31, 2012

Team Size:  Up to 25 Participants

Who: SUMC Youth and Adults (Youth under age 14 must be accompanied by parent, and cannot work on the worksite)

Skills:  None required, all welcome

Transportation:  Driving to Canton, OH

Accommodations: Camping

 

This trip will involve construction of new homes with Habitat for Humanity.  The trip is for both youth and adults (age 14 and up).  Younger children are welcome if accompanied by a parent, but it should be noted they will not be allowed on the worksite.  You will be camping and meals will be made by trip participants on a rotating schedule.

Preparing relief supplies for worldwide disaster response and doing minor home repair in the community.
 
Organization: United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
Trip Participant Fee:  $350 per participant
Trip Deposit:  $100 due January 15, 2012

Team Size:  Up to 15 participants
Who: SUMC Youth and Adults (Youth under age 12 must be accompanied by parent)
Skills:  None required, all welcome, persons with sewing skills needed
Transportation:  Flying to New Orleans, then driving to Sager Brown
Accommodations: UMCOR dormitory
 
This trip will involve preparation of relief supplies for worldwide disasters as well as working out in the community.  All ages can participate in the warehouse activities. The trip is for both adults and youth (age 12 and up must be accompanied by parent).   You will be staying in the UMCOR dormitory and meals will be provided.

 


 

  Bennettsville, South Carolina

Trip Participant Fee:  $125 per participant

Trip Deposit:  $50 due March 31, 2012

Team Size:  Up to 25 participants

Who: SUMC Youth and Adults (Youth under age 14 must be accompanied by parent,

and will be limited on the worksite)

Skills:  None required, all welcome

Transportation:  Driving to Bennettsville

Accommodations: Rustic cabins at Cheraw State Park

 

This trip will involve home rehabilitation with the Community Development Council of Marlboro County.  The trip is for both youth and adults (age 14 and up).  Younger children are welcome if accompanied by a parent, but it should be noted their activities will be limited on the work site.  This year the team will be living in rustic cabins at Cheraw State Park.  These are not the cabins we stayed in once before, but the rustic cabins at "Camp Juniper."  Meals will be prepared by the team in a common mess hall.

Transportation:  Driving to Kentucky
Accommodations: Cabins at Camp O'Cumberlands
 
This team will be working in the communities near Camp O'Cumberlands in Wallins, Kentucky, and will be doing minor home repair projects.  This team is open to youth age 12 and older and to adults.  Younger children under 12 may participate if accompanied by a parent, but will not be able to participate on the worksite.  Youth, ages 12 and 13 will be restricted to limited activities on the worksite.  The team will stay in group cabins at the camp, and will prepare its own meals in the camp kitchen.
